Rupan's son abducted, recovered

Chandigarh, June 30: Ranjit Bajaj, son of B.R. Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj, both officers of Punjab government, was reportedly assaulted and abducted by several men here last night. He was, however, recovered later in the night.

Police sources said two youngsters -- Sector 41 resident Amit Sharma and Ranjit Bajaj -- had gone to Hot Millions 2 in Sector 17 where they had a scuffle with a group of men over a minor issue. They allegedly pushed Ranjit into a jeep and sped away. They also snatched several articles belonging to Ranjit, said sources.

Meanwhile, the police were informed and they intercepted the jeep near the Mullanpur barrier. Gurpinderjit Singh, Karan Sandhu, Karamjit Singh, Gurpal Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Mohit Sharma and Jaspreet Singh were arrested subsequently.

The accused were today produced in the court of UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) A.K. Bishnoi and remanded to police custody for a day. The prosecution asked for the police custody on the ground that the stolen material including Rs 4,590, a chain, a wrist watch and two rings had to be recovered from the accused.
