Kolkata, May 27: A 20-member Trinamool Congress team is likely
meet President K.R. Narayanan on May 31 to draw his attention towards
‘‘electoral malpractices in the Assembly elections’’.
The team, which will include eight MPs, will brief him on ‘‘rigging
and proxy-voting in the elections by the CPI(M)’’, said Trinamool
Congress spokesperson Sudip Bandhopadhyaya. The team will also submit
a memorandum to Narayanan.
Bandhopadhyaya said the team, which will not include former Union
minister and rebel Ajit Kumar Panja, will present documents on the
‘‘electoral malpractice of the CPI(M)’’.
Speaking to The Indian Express, the Trinamool Congress leader said:
‘‘We will draw the President’s attention to how both the administration
and the CPI(M) had joined hands to rig the election process, particularly
in booths where the voting percentage touched 90 per cent or more.’’
Bandhopadhyaya said: ‘‘Our documents will prove that the fate of
parliamentary democracy in West Bengal is not safe in the hands
of the CPI(M)-led Left Front government.’’
