Aussies caught with pants down

Osaka, May 27: Australia’s men’s hockey players, fresh from downing South Korea in the final at the East Asian Games, had to disrobe and lend their tracksuits to their football cousins today.

After receiving the winners’ clay plates, the Kookaburras had to hand over their green and gold tracksuits so they could be spirited off to the young Socceroos for their runners-up presentation.

Not normally known for cutting corners on anything to do with sport, speculation that the Australian under-20 squad was on the receiving end of the accountant’s red pen was quashed by Barry Dancer, the men’s hockey coach. “The footballers forgot to bring them from home,” Dancer said with a twinkle in his eye.
