Chandigarh : Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is set to quit Bigg Boss after a month long stay on the reality show as BJP wants him to campaign in Gujarat, his wife said on Thursday.

“I received a call from BJP chief Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday asking me that he is needed by the party for poll campaigning in Gujarat,” Sidhu’s wife and Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Health, Punjab, Navjot Kaur said

“I spoke to the (Colors) channel people. They will talk to Sidhu and seek his version first... he will campaign in Gujarat,” she said, adding that “Modi loves Sidhu and has expressed the desire to have him on the election trail.”

The PTI reported that TV channel Colors’ spokesperson has confirmed receiving the request from Sidhu’s wife.

“We have received a request from Navjot Kaur to relieve her husband from Bigg Boss house urgently to resume his party work with BJP. We are deliberating on this request,” the spokesperson said.

When asked why Sidhu opted to participate in the show when he knew Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat elections were due, his wife said, “He never thought that he would stay in the Bigg Boss house for such a long period of time.”

She, however, rubbished the theory that she wanted Sidhu to leave the house after co-contestant Sapna Bhawnani accused the maverick politician of being a coward.

“He has been playing great and would’ve reached the finals. Why would I ask him to come out? I gave him permission to go, and show the world that Sardars are intelligent, stylish, sensible, serious people and that the world should see his best side,” Kaur said, adding she cannot argue with the party leaders.
