Ludhiana : Innovation knows no boundaries and it was rightly proven by Rose Mary Khongrymmai (55), a farmer from Ri-bhoi, Meghalya who has brought with her a unique herbal medicine for urinal tract infection (UTI) to Punjab. The medicine, which is her own innovation, stood out at the Innovator’s market place organised at Punjab Agriculture University on the ocassion of 7 th national conference on Krishi Vigyan Kender (KVK) which began on Tuesday.

Mary, a mother of six with 30 years of farming experience, said: “I have been working on this since 2000 and KVK Meghalya has really helped me in packaging and marketing the product. It is now a good source of income for me. I sell it for Rs 50 per bottle and it is now quite popular in Meghalya.”

Mary’s concoction uses Roselle plant (hibiscus sabdriffa), “The plant grows abundantly in Meghalya. The medicine, when ready, has to be drunk by the patient and it has no side-effects. Even the serious patients get relief after just three days of taking this medicine,”she said.

“It is cheap and people can grow this plant in kitchen gardens,” she added. She is also working on medicine for jaundice from tree khasi (oroxylum indicum).
