Ludhiana : In yet another reminder, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has reminded people to clear encroachments from link roads within 15 days or face action. About 1,500 notices have been sent to the encroachers.

Of the total 5,000-km long link roads, encroachments have sprouted on 1,000 km area which have made the roads narrow and accident-prone.

A few months back, PWD Minister Sharanjeet Singh Dhillon himself had started this campaign from his own constituency Sahnewal, and hundreds of encroachments were cleared. But the pace slowed down subsequently. So, the DC called yet another meeting so as to remind the officers of the encroachments. Most of the encroachments have been made by the farmers and they are doing farming on the government land which falls along their fields.

The DC, however, told the encroachers to clear their encroachments on their own and get the area levelled within a fortnight. Though in the past a few FIRs had been registered against the encroachers, no strict action was taken.

At this meeting, ADC (D) Rishipal Singh and others were also present.
