Mrunal Thakur, who plays Gauri Bhonsle, along with Ravindra Mankani who plays the role of Appa Saheb and Mrinal Kulkarni who plays her troubled mother, Pratiksha, were in the city on Friday to interact with the media and viewers. Kulkarni, who is working with the channel for the fifth time, is excited about her new role. “I play the role of Pratiksha, who is Gauri's mother. She has been kept as a prisoner by her family for the last 20 years,” says Kulkarni. “It was very interesting to do this role, because to be in the shoes of someone who has been drugged and has been blaming herself for the death of her husband for the last two decades. Pratiksha is very subdued, doesn't know what to say and is socially awkward. But when she meets Gauri, a very emotional mother-daughter bond is formed,” explains Kulkarni.
Gauri Bhonsle, as the debut episode revealed, is the lead character of the show that is centred on her journey in finding her roots amid her family in Kolhapur. The show begins with Gauri caught up in her wedding preparations in London, eagerly waiting for her family to fly down for her wedding from India – the family she has never met before. But they don’t show up, and therefore she decides to travel to India and find them.
