Fearing a threat from Member of Parliament Kuldeep Bishnoi, Fiza alias Anuradha Bali, the estranged wife of former deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, had plans to give a memorandum to the President. She had also planned to give a copy of the memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Congress high command.
This has been stated by Salim Alvi, a close aide of Fiza, in his written statement to the Mohali police. A resident of Bulandshahr, Alvi has shot off a letter to the Mohali police. He has submitted that his two-page letter be considered his written statement.
Earlier this month, the Mohali Police had asked Alvi to get his statement recorded. Fiza was to meet Alvi on August 9, but three days before that her body was recovered from her residence in Sector 48.
Ruling out the possibility of a suicide, Alvi has written that Fiza was an “educated” woman and was “too brave” to take such a cowardly decision. Had she committed suicide, she would have left a suicide note.
Suspecting it to be a murder, Alvi has urged the Mohali police to carry out a fair and independent investigation and nail those responsible for Fiza’s mysterious death.
Talking to Chandigarh Newsline from Bulandshahr, Alvi said, “I have written a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohali, asking for an independent probe into the case.” He added that he had narrated facts as told to him by Fiza before her death. Fiza, as per Alvi, had a telephone chat with him on July 29 when she reiterated her apprehensions.
She had also approached a city lawyer to file a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection. “It was me who suggested Fiza madam to come to Bulandshahr and write to President and Prime Minister. She had repeatedly mentioned about Kuldeep Bishnoi. I am not pointing a finger at any individual but have only narrated whatever Fiza shared with me. All I want is an independent probe without any political pressure,” Alvi said.
Alvi claims he has been receiving “strange” calls ever since he named a Lok Sabha MP. Days after Fiza’s body was recovered, Alvi had claimed that she had named an MP and alleged that she had received threatening calls from the MP and his party workers.
Alvi had received a call from the Mohali Police asking him to join the investigation. Alvi had requested for police protection. Fiza’s autopsy report had suggested that she had died of poisoning. The three-member medical board, which handed over the report to the SIT, had said Fiza had died due to poisoning by aluminium phosphide in the presence of ethyl alcohol. The Mohali police is yet to register an FIR in the case and is investigating the case to find out whether Fiza committed suicide, was administered poison or was murdered.
