Asif and Sarvar had played an important role in organising a panchayat in Adhauli when she left her father’s house on October 29, 2010 to marry Hakim, she alleged, adding that the duo had forced her father to lodge a case of abduction against Hakim at a police station. She further alleged that Asif and Sarvar got Hakim killed by their employees Salman, Malik and Gullu.
While Asif and Sarvar were arrested on Tuesday, Gullu was arrested on Wednesday. Salman and Malik are on the run.
Mahwish said that her father Mohammad Shahrukh, mother Shabnam and youngest brother lived at their native place, while elder brother worked in Delhi.
She said the couple returned to Bulandshahr four months ago and started living at Bhatgarhi village near Adhauli. Before returning, they met the SP (Rural) and requested for security. They shifted to Bhatgarhi only after an assurance of safety by the SP, she said.
Principal Secretary (Home) R M Srivastava said that they have received a communication from the Union Home Ministry seeking a report on the case. “We are sending the report. Law and order is a state matter and we will look into it,” he said.
Additional DG (Law and Order) Arun Kumar said, “We are investigating the murder. We are not getting into the argument if it was an honour killing. Three of the five accused have been arrested.”
Bulandshahr SSP Gulab Singh claimed it’s not a case of honour killing. He denied Hakim or his wife visited police officials in Bulandshahr, and said that Hakim had filed a petition in the high court in 2011, requesting for security. The court had asked him to meet the concerned police officials, but Hakim never visited any police official, said the SSP. He said that Hakim’s murder was the result of a fight between his brother Khairu’s son Salman and Asif’s employee, also named Salman, on July 6 last year. The case was in the court and Asif’s employee Salman was pressuring Khairu for a compromise. Hakim had slapped Salman’s mother on November 22 after a heated exchange; Salman shot him the same evening, said the SSP.
