IIIT-A conclave to host ASEAN, SAARC students

Allahabad : Students and researchers from ASEAN nations, SAARC and African countries will be participating for the first time in the fifth annual week-long Science Conclave, featuring Nobel laureates, beginning at the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) here on December 8.

Students from Jammu and Kashmir and the North-Eastern states will also participate for the first time.

A total of five Nobel laureates, who won the award in their fields for different years between 1985 and 1996, will participate in the conclave. Besides, two other Nobel laureates will present their lectures through video conferencing. One A M Turing awardee, an award considered equivalent to the Nobel award in the field of computer science, will also participate.

Addressing a press conference at IIIT-A in the newly built auditorium, institute director Dr M D Tiwari said: “A total of 41 participants from countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore and Philippines have confirmed their participation. Further, there will be participants from African countries like Madagascar, Tanzania, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, Zimbabwe, Togo, Tunisia, Kenya and Sudan.”

The Science Conclave takes its inspiration from Lindau Conclave of Germany.
