When the Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Sector 17, Inspector Ram Gopal was asked about the reason that so many cases registered in one day, he said, “We are just trying to maintain the decorum in the area of our jurisdiction. Hence, we are registering cases against all those who are not following the laws”.
Out of a total of 20 reports registered on December 8, 16 were for property defacement. The SHO also added that in the last one month, more than 40 per cent cases of property defacement have been registered in Police Station Sector 17.
Cases were registered against those who are providing paying guest facilities, tiffin services, unlimited broadband services, coaching classes and others.
Amandeep Singh, a resident of Zirakpur, Punjab who pasted an advertisement poster for Permanent Tattoos and Body Piercing and Apurva Kumar a resident of Sector 19 who pasted an advertisement poster offering a job for data collection on the wall under bridge, ISBT Sector 17, Chandigarh were arrested by the police.
Parveen Kumar, a resident of Village Burail and Sahib Singh, a resident of Sector 21 were arrested for pasting an advertisement poster for a PG accommodation for boys on the wall of a bus stop in Sector 22-B, Chandigarh.
Also, several cases of many coaching classes and against unknown persons promising to provide unlimited broadband services were registered.
All the accused were later released on bail by the police.
