The recovery drive is under way at Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Rajgurunagar, Manchar and Mulshi divisions, chief engineer of the Pune division of MSEDCL S P Nagtilak said. FIRs will be lodged against consumers who have availed of irregular and unauthorised electricity connection.
Awareness drive on female foeticide held
Students from various colleges across the city set out to make 12-12-12 an important day by going out on a march to spread awareness about female foeticide. The rally began from SNDT and came to an end at Sambhaji Park where several plays were staged depicting this social problem. Over 250 female students from MES Abasaheb Garware, SNDT university, Fergusson College, Shri Siddhivinayak Arts and Commerce College and many others took part in this awareness drive. Padmashri Sheetal Mahajan was the chief guest .
Man kills wife for not giving money for liquor
Pimpri police have arrested a man who allegedly killed his wife by banging a domestic LPG cylinder and dumbbells on her head after a dispute on Wednesday. Police have identified the suspect as Bhau Shamrao Jogdand (50), a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar Vasahat, Pimpri. His deceased wife has been identified as Nandabai Jogdand (45), who used to earn her living by doing labour work. Their son Appa Bhau Jogdand (25) lodged the complaint against his father at the Pimpri police station. Police said that suspect was unemployed and was demanding money from his wife Nandabai for liquor. He used to harass her when she refused to give him money. Following a quarrel, the suspect hit her with dumbbells at 3.30 am on Wednesday. He also banged LPG cylinder on her head, causing her death.
Road mishap claims three pilgrims
Three pilgrims died, while two others were injured as the car in which they were traveling rammed a truck parked on the road near the Karla MTDC resort, around 7 pm Wednesday.
