“We received the orders from the MHA this evening, stating that all the constables and the head constables who have been serving in the UT police on deputation from Punjab and Haryana for more than seven years be sent back to their parent states. Acting on the letter from MHA, orders for repatriation of the 69 police personnel including constables and head constables have been issued,” said the officiating Inspector General of the UT police, Deputy Inspector General Alok Kumar.
The DIG added that the transfer of 69 people would not make much difference to the UT police, which has a strength of 6,000 personnel. But the process of recruitment would be started soon.
The latest development follows a move by the MHA to merge the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) cadre of the Chandigarh Police who have served rather long in the UT police with the Delhi-Andaman Nicobar Island Police Services (DANIPS) cadre.
The UT Administration had replied that it would not be possible to spare DSPs from Chandigarh for posting in other Union Territories. However, the MHA had recently cleared the names of five ACPs from Delhi who would be joining the UT police as DSPs on deputation.
