Displaying superb potting skills, Sumit rushed through the first frame and won 65-19. He maintained his form and was even more ruthless in the second frame, which he won 75-4. He rounded off the tally with another emphatic 60-18 victory in the final frame.
Meanwhile, Ranveer, the eight-yearold cueist, went down fighting to Ishwar, 1-2, in a keenly fought encounter. Ishwar claimed the first frame, 60-37. The 19-year-old was then stung by Ranveer when he lost the second frame 18-60 and the match went into the third frame.
Though Ishwar went on the win the final frame, it was Ranveer who won the heart of spectators with his brave effort. In another senior snooker event, Ankit Sharma outplayed Ajay, 2-0, in a lopsided encounter. Ankit claimed the first frame, 61-32, and was at his best in the second frame, which he won 46-18.
Golfing Tour from Dec 21
The Chandigarh Golf Association will organise the Eighth Chandigarh Golfing Tour from December 21 to 23, according to CGA Media Committee chairman Dronacharya Desh Prem Azad. Leading players from abroad apart from the Indian participants will be taking part in the tournament.
Shishu Niketan-43 bring laurels to city
Shishu Niketan School, Sector 43, Chandigarh finished third in the Indo Nepal Series under-19 cricket tournament held in Nepal recently. India had sent three teams for the tournament, the same as Bangladesh while Pakistan sent two teams. The Shishu Niketan team lost to Bangaldesh in the semi-final but defeated Sri Lanka for the third place. The tournament was won by Bangaldesh while the Nepal team from Pokhra was the runner-up. The Shishu Niketan -43 team had held a week-long training camp under coach Nishant Thakur, in preparation for the tournament in Nepal, at the School’s Academy.
