Three youths died in a road accident on Ferozepur road, near Baddowal (Dakha), on Wednesday, after the motorcycle they were riding on hit a tree. The three deceased have been identified as Preetam Singh, Iqbal Singh and Govind Singh. All three were in their early 20s and were coming to Ludhiana to donate blood.
The cause of the accident is still not clear. “There were no marks on the motorcycle which makes clear that it didn't collide with any other vehicle. As per our assumptions, they were speeding and to save someone who came in front of them, they took a sharp turn and thus hit the tree. The accident took place between 12 to 1 am,” Manjinder Singh, SHO, Dakha said.
The incident came to light in the morning after passer-bys spotted the bodies in the bushes near a smashed motorcycle. Lok Sewa Committee, an NGO running free ambulance service for road accident victims in Mullanpur, got the call at 7 am. “We rushed to the spot but till then three of them had already died,” said one of workers from NGO.
The families have refused to get the postmortem done and the bodies have been handed over,” he added.
Major Singh, uncle of Pritam Singh, said: “My nephew and Iqbal Singh belong to Attar Singh wala village while Govind Singh belongs to Dhanola village near Sagrur. They left from home for Ludhiana on their motorcycle at around 6 pm on Tuesday to donate blood in some camp.”
