Not in full strength — state Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh, former CLP leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and senior leader Laal Singh were conspicuous by their absence — Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar led the protest in the Assembly on Thursday.
Later, while speaking to the media, Jakhar said they would only talk to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. “We will not speak to power-drunk Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, who yesterday had announced that the House will be stalled for the next five years or biased Speaker Charanjit Atwal, who suspended the Congress MLA without any evidence. They ignored what was clearly evident — Revenue Minister Bikramjit Majithia’s expletives were telecast live and are now on Youtube,” Jakhar said.
“Majithia is trying to create such fear in the state that mothers will say ‘so jao nai toh Majithia aa jayenga’. By the tone and tenor of his warnings yesterday, we fear he will try to cause physical harm to opposition MLAs,” he added.
‘Sanawar School should return cheque’
While referring to the incident where Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal asked a woman journalist to repeat the expletives hurled by Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia in the Assembly, Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said Sanawar School, which has been gifted Rs 1 crore by the Deputy CM, should return the money. “Sukhbir should have come to the press gallery to apologise for the insult. Sanawar, which is a co-educational school, should also strike his name out of its famous alumni list,” he said.
