A manager of a private construction firm owned by Minister of State for Railways Adhir Choudhary filed a complaint with police on Thursday alleging death threats from Animal Husbandary Minister Humayun Kabir, who was recently inducted into the Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet after he quit the Congress to join Trinamool.
Santu Sinha, the manager of Aroma Company based in Murshidabad, registered a complaint with Rezinagar police station saying Kabir has given him death threats and used abusive language.
Kabir, however, denied the allegations and said it was a “conspiracy to malign” his image by his one-time political godfather and Congress MP Adhir Choudhary. “Adhir Choudhury owns the construction company of which Santu Sinha is the manager. I used to look after the company till July 30, 2012 as Adhirda had requested me to do so. I found that he had taken a huge loan from the market and I also helped the company with financial assistance. I never asked for the money as the company did not receive the payment from the government for building roads under some government schemes. But now, I know that the government has started paying the company. I will get Rs 83 lakh from the company. But the manager abused me when I asked for my money,” said Kabir.
He also said that the reason he quit the Congress to join the Trinamool was that despite complaining about the manager, Adhir didn’t take any action.
Adhir said he was not aware of any such money that Kabir had given to the firm. “I don’t know about any such due. My family owns a company, but I don’t know how he owes money from that company. If he has evidence, h could have gone to the police and to the Income Tax department,” said Adhir.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool leadership has not taken the allegations made against Kabir lightly and said law will take its course. Subrata Mukherjee, senior Trinamool leader, said , “If he (Kabir) has the required documents, then he should go to the court.”
Kabir, however, said that he will explain his position to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “If she asks me to resign I will do so,” he added.
Late night, PTI reported that Kabir has also filed a complaint against Sinha alleging that he threatened him over phone. The SP of Murshidabad said police have received both the complaints and was looking into it. — PTI inputs
