The Right Moves

In first of its kind move, choreographer Remo D’Souza will copyright certain dance sequences from his next film titled Any Body Can Dance (ABCD) to prevent infringement. For the choreographer-director, this move is to bring dance steps from his next film under the same regulations. “Like films, dance steps or sequences are creative works. If a script and songs have a copyright, why can’t dance sequences too? I want to take this forward and copyright the sequence I have conceived and used for the song Bezubaan. It’s the first number that we are rolling out,” says D’Souza. The song features Zee’s reality show Dance India Dance (DID)winners Salman Khan, along with Dharmesh and Lauren Gottlieb from American reality show So You Think Can Dance, all of whom will groove in the rain. D’Souza adds, “If I have a copyright, no one will be able to perform the same steps on any platform. If they wish to, they can pay me royalty,” says D’Souza, who is making the copyright effective early next week. Any Body Can Dance, produced by UTV Spotboy, will release in theatres on February 8.
