Mulayam vented his dissatisfaction in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav at a function organised to lay the foundation of an international standard swimming pool at his native village Saifai in Etawah district. “I am aware about the functioning of the government. It is being run by officials and not the ministers. Only one or two ministers are performing up to the expectations, others need to pull up their socks,” he said.
In the past also, Mulayam has expressed his dissatisfaction with the functioning of the state government at meetings of party office-bearers and ministers, but this is the first time he said this publicly. The SP president also said there were individual officers holding several important departments which was not a good practice. He asked his son to keep a watch on such officials. “You have several departments under you. You should keep an eye on the working of officials under you as some of them have important departments,” Mulayam reportedly told Akhilesh. He also asked Akhilesh to summon a Cabinet meeting and take stock of pending projects and ensure that the decisions of the Cabinet are implemented in letter and spirit. He also asked Akhilesh to function without bias.
