Month after death, Delhi gangrape victim clears physiotherapy exam with 73% marks

Dehradun : Less than a month after her death in a Singapore hospital, the 23-year-old woman who was gangraped and tortured on a moving bus in south Delhi figured today in a list of successful candidates put out by the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand.

She secured 72.7 per cent in the fourth year examination of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy course.

“She got 800 out of a total of 1100 marks,” said the director of the Dehradun institute where the woman studied physiotherapy. He said her performance was “very good” in all subjects.

“As per the statement of marks, she secured 124 (out of 200) in physiotherapy in orthopaedics; 147 (out of 200) in physiotherapy in neurology; 151 (out of 200) in physiotherapy in cardiothoracic conditions; 144 (out of 200) in physiotherapy in general medicine; 160 (out of 200) in physiotherapy in clinical dissertation; and, 74 (out of 100) in research methodology,” the director said over phone.

She had taken the examination in September 2012.

The head of department of the course described her performance as “excellent”.

“I have not seen the results of all my students but I guess she must be among the top three in this course at the institute,” she said.

She said not many students get more than 70 per cent in the course. “They are supposed to grow in their career on their own. So, examiners do not have a very liberal attitude in awarding marks. Only sincere students perform well in this course,” she said.
