Patna : The Bihar Police chief Sunday ordered a probe into allegations of “inhuman treatment” of an accused at the SP’s residence. The accused, who was arrested on January 24 for illegal liquor trade, had to undergo intestinal surgery.

Dhiraj Kumar, of Barbigha, had complained to DGP Abhayanand Saturday that his nephew Mukesh was brutally beaten up after his arrest by Sheikhpura SP Babu Ram and his two bodyguards. He alleged that the police had been unable to arrest the two main accused.

The DGP said he had asked the SP to submit a report.

The SP said, “It has become fashionable to complain against SPs. The local police arrested Mukesh... I and my bodyguards had no role in the arrest and alleged torture.”
