Chandigarh : They may have failed to arrest a murder-accused Himachal MLA for more than 48 days — till he surrendered — but when it comes to other crimes, Haryana Police reach the “expected” crime spot much before the criminals do and nab them. In the recent days, several such cases came to light in the last two months, where criminals reached the spot only to find policemen waiting for them.

The latest happened in Yamunanagar district on December 16, last year when five youngsters were arrested and unauthorised weapons recovered. “Crime Branch head Jagbir Singh was on night patrol with his team, when someone informed him about five armed youth near the Tejli Stadium planning to commit a dacoity in Jagadhari. The team raided the spot and arrested the criminals,” a senior police officer said.

In another such incident in Sonepat on December 10, a police team arrested four armed youngsters from a check post. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Rajpal Singh, present on Narela-Sonepat highway, learnt that four armed youngsters, who had committed several armed robberies, were about to cross the check post in Honda City car. As they waited, a Honda City car (HR-26-Z-6397) reached the checkpost. “As the police team closed in, an accused fired at them but missed. All four were arrested and they confessed having committed several robberies and vehicle thefts,” said a police officer.

The same day Sonepat police claimed that a Crime Branch team was present at city’s Kalupur octroi post and on seeing two youngsters roaming under suspicious circumstances. Police questioned the duo and “found” that the youth were wanted criminals.

Similarly, the Jind police had in November claimed that a team patrolling near Niranjan village spotted two persons sitting by the side of the road planning to commit a “sensational crime”.

The duo turned out be “most-wanted absconding” criminals.

In Sonepat, Sadar police station’s in charge Dalbir Singh while patrolling spotted a man near the turn of Sector-3, “who was planning to commit a dacoity”. The police raided the spot and arrested the youth.
