Civic body assures A2Z of security in Chaura Bazaar

Ludhiana : The company hired by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for door-to-door garbage collection, A2Z, is all set to begin its work in Chaura Bazaar in a few days. However, in view of the threats given to A2Z by the safai karamcharis of Valmiki Samaj, the civic body has assured the company that they should continue their work and if Valmiki workers create any problem, police will be called as per law.

A2Z is currently collecting garbage from 12 out of the total 75 wards, and safai karmacharis have been protesting since the company was hired saying MC has taken away their only source of bread and butter.

“MC Commissioner has assured us that if Valmiki Samaj indulges in violence the day we start work in Chaura Bazaar, we should immediately call him and security will be provided immediately,” said B P S Chauhan, vice-president, A2Z.

Amarjeet Sekhon, joint commissioner, MC, said, “We have already offered Valmiki Samaj people Rs 6,000 per month along with PF. But if still they are not ready to accept our offer, it is not our problem. Police will be called if they indulge in any violence. A2Z will continue with their work.”

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is personally taking interest in the matter and has told the mayor to ensure A2Z work is not disrupted.
