Lucknow : UP Police has filed the final report in the case against Rahul Gandhi and his supporters for allegedly violating prohibitory orders imposed by the district election officer during the Amethi MP’s roadshow in Kanpur during last year’s Assembly election.

The closure report stated that there was not “sufficient” evidence in support of the allegations mentioned in the FIR.

Investigating Officer Uday Pratap Singh Yadav said, “The investigation of the case had been pending for more than six months when I joined the Cantonment police station as station officer. I started the investigation and filed the final report on finding that there was not sufficient evidence in support of the allegations.” The final report had been filed some time in December and he was not aware if it had been accepted by the court, Yadav added.

The FIR was lodged against Rahul, Congress’ Kanpur chief Mahesh Dikshit and unnamed party supporters for defying prohibitory orders by not sticking to the permitted route of the roadshow and also continuing the campaign beyond the allowed time on February 20, 2012.
