The IOA was suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in December last year for holding its elections under the National Sports Code.
The decision to this effect was taken in NRAI's governing body meeting that was held on February 1. It is understood that shooting sports' governing body, the ISSF, had written to the NRAI to bar all the individuals to ensure that “anybody who was part of that illegal election should not be part of your elections”. Fearing disaffiliating, the NRAI chose to take this tough stance. “Whosoever was there will not be allowed to participate in our elections,” NRAI president, Raninder Singh told Sportline on Monday.
“We've written to all the state associations about this matter and they have been told to report back to us in 15 days time,” he added. Anurag Thakur, who heads the Himachal Rifle body and Raja Sidhu are some of the officials who will be barred from the elections.
Interestingly, the NRAI is not keen to be seen interfering with the state units directly. “We would be OK If they don't forward the same names for the AGM, who attended the IOA's AGM. If they do then we will deal with it,” said a source.
