Chandigarh : The term of the present director, Manoj Datta, is coming to an end on March 31. Sources said that Datta is trying for an extension

With the term of the present director of the PEC University of Technology, Manoj Datta, coming to an end on March 31, the high-powered committee has begun the process of appointing a new director of the institution.

The term of the PEC director is of five years. It is learnt that the high-powered committee consisted of UT Advisor K K Sharma, Home Secretary Anil Kumar, Finance Secretary V K Singh and others. The applications were to be received by January 31. The new director is likely to take charge on April 1. Sources said that Datta is trying for an extension for the post.

President, PEC Teachers’ Association, Prof Siby John said that as the term of the director is of five years, no extension should be given in any case. If any one gets 10 years to rule an institute, it would do nothing but ruin the institution.

“PEC wants a director who is dynamic and has good leadership qualities. Even the Outlook rating of the institution has declined from 19 in 2010-11 to 23 in 2011-12. In the past few years, the PEC has witnessed no new things. It is still traditional in many aspects,” added Prof John.

Before taking charge of PEC in 2009, Prof Datta held the office of Dean Alumni and International Programmes IIT Delhi from 2004 to 2007. His areas of specialisation include geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, ground engineering, earth dams, landfill engineering and geo environmental engineering.
