NHAI manager held for accepting bribe sent to CBI- ACB custody till Feb 8

Special judge S V Yarlagadda on Tuesday remanded National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) manager in Anti Corruption Bureau of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI- ACB) custody till February 8 for investigation the case. The CBI-ACB had arrested Shankar Pawar, manager (technical), NHAI, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 form a developer on Monday.

Police inspectors (CBI) Sujata Tanawade and Swati Desai produced Pawar before the court on Tuesday and sought his police custody for four days. Special public prosecutor Vivek Saxena told the court that manipulated documents have been recovered from Pawar’s office during searches, which throw light on his modus operandi of accepting bribes.

According to CBI-ACB, Pawar had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 for issuing an NOC to the complainant for three plots near National Highway in Satara district. After negotiations, the suspect agreed to settle for Rs 22,000.

The CBI team laid a trap and the suspect was caught red-handed while accepting the money.
