Five days after a 17-year old student of Polytechnic College, Sector 26, Rohit, went missing, the boy was recovered from the Saketri temple on Wednesday by the local police with the help of his friends who located him sitting in the temple. Rohit Chauhan feared going home as he had lost his phone which his mother had bought him a few days ago.
“I thought I will not go home till I buy a new phone,” said the 17-year old who had not returned home from college since February 1. Rohit spent the first night near the golf range and had been eating at the Mansa Devi temple and Saketri all these days. He only had a hundred rupees with him which were given to him by his principal for buying medicines and chocolates.
As per the police, his friends who had gone out for a party with Rohit on February 1, went to Saketri Temple to pay homage Wednesday morning. There they found that Rohit was sitting in the temple. The boys then informed the principal of their college. Police sources claim that they had sent Rohit’s friends to different temples in the city to locate him.
The police however, did not question the boy much and have advised the same to the family of the boy. “They (Police) have asked us not to question him yet. They have told us to wait for a few days and then ask him whatever questions we have,” said the mother of the boy, Rameshwari Chauhan.
She also added the IGP RP Upadhyaya had questioned the boy after he was recovered from the temple. The boy went missing from his college when he was sent by his principal to to buy a medicine and some chocolates from a medical store in Sector 7. After that, the boy had not returned to the college or to his home.
The mother of the child approached the police on February 2 when and the police registered a DDR which was converted into an FIR on February 3 after an NGO of the locality where the family lives intervened.
Rohit’s mother, Rameshwari works as a compounder with a private doctor in Chandigarh. On Wednesday, Rameshwari was called by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) East, Vijay Kumar. “I got a call in the morning that the DSP wants to see me,” she said.
She further said that Rohit’s friends, who had gone for a party with him, had been called by the DSP for questioning. According to Rameshwari, the principal of the college, RK Kapoor gave a call to the police station that the boy has been found. “We went to the college where he (the principal) informed us about Rohit’s whereabouts,” said a police official.
The 17-year-old boy had lost his father in the year 2006 in a road accident at the Transport Light Point. Since then, Rohit had been living with his mother and a younger sister in Indira Colony, Manimajra.
