Chennai : Popular actor and DMK member Khushboo came under attack from a group of alleged supporters of party leader M K Stalin on Thursday, after she said in an interview to a Tamil periodical that the next leader would be elected by the general council of the party and not handpicked by the leadership.

The comments, published in a periodical that hit the stands Thursday morning, drew the ire of a section of DMK members. By noon, a group of persons, allegedly DMK cadre owing allegiance to Stalin, gathered outside Khushboo’s residence in Chennai, raising slogans against her. The mob threw stones at her house, damaging a car and windows.

Along with DMK president M Karunanidhi, Stalin and other leaders, Khushboo was in Tiruchirappalli to attend a function, where a slogan-shouting group flung footwear at her. She immediately left for Chennai after learning about the attack on her house.

“I got a message from my family that my house in Chennai has been attacked. I am worried about my children,” Khushboo said, adding she had not made any statement against Stalin or the party.

Khushboo’s comments were perceived anti-Stalin, accentuated by the headline of the interview that read “it is not necessary that Stalin would be next president”.
