Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala Thursday challenged in the Delhi High Court his conviction for illegally recruiting 3,206 teachers 12 years ago.

Chautala, 78, sought suspension of his 10 year prison term on the ground that he was “unwell and suffering from various ailments”. Besides, he argued, “the case is false” so he “ought not to be put to such great prejudice and hardship due to conviction and incarceration during the pendency of the appeal, which is unlikely to be disposed of expeditiously”.
