Chittaranjan Ghorai, Superintendent of Alipore Correctional Home, said, “Arabul is continuing with his hunger strike. We are trying to feed him, but he refuses to take any food. He is currently in the jail hospital.”
Pradip Mondal, a close associate of Arabul, who alleged non-cooperation from hospital authorities, said: “Arabul’s condition is very critical and for the past three days, he is fasting. We are worried about his health. We have requested them to shift Arabul da to the hospital, but he is still in the jail hospital.”
Just after his arrest, Arabul had complained of chest pain and got admitted to SSKM Hospital. However, weeks later after a report by a medical board, he was discharged from the hospital and sent to jail.
Initially, senior party leaders rushed to Bhangar to extend moral support to Arabul.
However, after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave the final nod to arrest Arabul, all of the senior leaders have reportedly severed ties with the controversial MLA.
