New Delhi : Targeting J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remarks over the hanging of Afzal Guru, the BJP Monday said he was speaking the voice of “separatists”.

“In his venomous interviews to the media, Omar Abdullah has ended up sympathising with Afzal Guru. It seems that the J&K chief minister is speaking in the voice of separatists,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said, adding that “his statements were unbecoming of a chief minister.”

He also rubbished Omar’s claim that the new generation of Kashmiris will identify with Afzal. “BJP condemns the denigration of Kahsmiri youth and it is sure that Kashmiri youth today identify with cricketer Shami Ahmad and IAS topper Shah Faisal and not with a terrorist like Afzal,” he said.

Javadekar punched holes in Omar’s “selective” reading of the Supreme Court verdict. “He forgets conveniently that the court had said ‘there was not even a shred of doubt about Afzal Guru’s complicity in hatching the conspiracy to attack Parliament and evidence showed that he had actively participated in its execution’.”
