Afzal Guru's execution was a completion of legal process: Shukla

Melbourne : Endorsing the execution of Afzal Guru, hanged for his role in the 2001 attack on the Parliament, ParliamentaryAffairs Minister Rajiv Shukla has said it was a completion of a legal process.

“The process is complete now though there has been a delay to complete those process,” Shukla, who is currently leading a goodwill delegation to Australia, said.

Commenting on the other cases which were pending, including the cases of assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, Shukla said there was a process involved for every case that has to be completed.

Shukla is accompanied by large group of Parliamentarians, including Shantaram Laxman, Vilas Baburao Muttemwar, Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Ramen Deka, Neeraj Shekhar and Jagdish Sharma.

The delegation expected to travel Perth, Melbourne, Sydney would also visit Canberra and attend parliamentary question time.

Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail on February 9, six days after his final clemency plea was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee.
