It’s hard to miss the recent overdrive of graffiti art around town. Now, one more wall in the Capital will be splashed with colours. The patterns here won’t be sequenced or pre-empted, for painting it will be more than a couple of artists — from art students and professional artists to art enthusiasts. “We are expecting more than 500 people,” says Sapna Menon, director, Brand Promotions India Private Limited, which has initiated the WallBook series, under which walls across India will be painted with graffiti. While the Mumbai chapter had people painting the wall between Mahim and Matunga Railway station in May 2012, in Delhi, Sunday is when art enthusiasts will assemble to paint the wall near Delhi University metro station, gate number 1, next to Miranda House. Those keen to participate can register on Facebook, and on the day of the event organisers will hand them with the required paints and material. “The theme will be ‘Design a Change’. In the digital age, when people are increasingly making art online, this community activity aims to bring the charm of the brush back,” says Menon, who hopes to take the movement to south India in the coming months.
