Chandigarh : Stating that a Sub-Inspector of the Women and Child Support Unit of the UT Police, Balwant Singh, instead of counselling a couple “pushed” them for divorce, the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has recommended to the IGP to issue him a “censure”.

As per the PCA order, the accused officer indulged in “gross and arbitrary misconduct” which lasted more than a year.

Ashok had mentioned in his complaint that the investigating officer, SI Balwant Singh, allegedly did not facilitate any counselling or any other help in saving the marriage. “The SI harassed, humiliated and insulated the complainants,” notes the PCA order.

“It is found that SI Balwant Singh acted most unfairly by refusing to recover, accept despite the articles offered time and again by the complainant. He continued to harass him (complainant) and his son for more than one year,” adds the PCA order.
