Varanasi District Magistrate (DM) Ravinder on Tuesday constituted the board after Tripathi, who is convicted in poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case in 2007 and currently lodged in the Varanasi central jail, had got him admitted in Gorakhpur and Varanasi hospitals when he was being taken to his native place for the funeral of his mother in July.
The medical board is presided by Dr Deepika Joshi and Professor Vivek Sharma of BHU. It also comprises three doctors from different district hospitals. Senior Superintendent of Varanasi jail, Captain SK Pandey told The Indian Express that Dr Joshi had earlier examined Amarmani in July before he was taken to his native place and got him admitted at the Gorakhpur Medical College on July 14. Pandey said Dr Joshi had recommended Amarmani to get an MRI done and also a check-up at SGPGI.
When inquired, Dr Joshi said, “I had found him suffering from lower back pain and advised him an MRI and consultation at SGPGI.”
However, he was admitted in another unit of the Neurology department under the supervision of Associate Professor Vijay Nath Mishra, she said.
Dr Joshi said, “We have asked for complete records related to Amarmani’s treatment at SGPGI and other hospitals. After examining them, we will conduct his medical check-up if required.”
Meanwhile, Varanasi DM Ravinder said he was not aware if Dr Joshi had examined Amarmani in July. Three government doctors and ADM (City) MP Singh will also be present during his medical examination to ensure fair findings.
