The police identified the two dead as Mukesh Bhati and Deepak. Another person, identified as Pintu, is been admitted in a critical condition to a hospital.
Police said the truck was parked on the side of the carriageway from Delhi to Greater Noida as it had a puncture in the rear left tyre.
“Around 4 pm, a grey Volkswagen Polo bearing a Delhi registration number crashed into the rear of the truck. The trio who were crowded near the truck’s back wheel trying to fix the puncture were also hit. While Mukesh Bhati was killed on the spot, Deepak died shortly after being taken to the Yatarth Hospital,” said a senior police officer.
Mukesh Bhati was a resident of Girdharpur in Greater Noida while Deepak, the attendant, was from Samastipur in Bihar.
Police said by the time they reached the spot, the occupants of the car had fled from there in another car. “Eyewitnesses told us that there two persons in the car, a man and a woman. These two must have either called acquaintances or had another car following them, in which they escaped. They left the badly damaged car behind. We have been able to identify the registration number of the vehicle and are trying to locate the owner,” a senior police officer said.
