Ahmedabad : Police on Thursday arrested a home guard and his mother in connection with the death of his wife and son who were allegedly set ablaze on May 16 at their house in Parasnagar society of Ghatlodia area.

While her five-year-old Vishwa was declared dead on arrival at VS Hospital, his mother, Archana Parmar (30), died later at the hospital.

Police had earlier questioned Archana’s husband Rajesh Parmar, a home guard, and her mother-in-law Laxmi Parmar who had claimed she was not at good terms with them and had left their house four times in past and even tried to commit suicide. Rajesh used to live in his second home at Shahibuag, close to his office at Lal Darwaza, police said.

According to police, before she died, Archana had told them in the hospital that she and her son were set ablaze by a man who had barged into their house. The police claimed Archana’s husband and in-laws has been harassing her for dowry for several years. “However, who actually set her and her son ablaze is still not clear. We are probing further,” Inspector K C Rathod said.

The police have booked the mother-son duo for domestic violence and dowry harassment.
