Come August 11 and over 600 people from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, Bihar and other states, will be seen visiting the famous Osho Meditation Resort in Pune popularly known as Osho Ashram. The reason is the five-day Monsoon Festival, to be held from August 11 to August 15. “It is going to be a much larger affair than the previous years. We have more than twice the number of people coming in for the festival this year,” says Amrit Sadhana, a management to team member from the ashram.
The five-day fest has been organised with the aim of relaxing and celebrating the monsoon season. In its fourth year, festival will include activities such as live performances by artistes, costume events, Bollywood dances and meditation sessions. "The festival will combine a lot of life lessons, self-development and entertaining events, to keep everyone interested," says Sadhana.
Talking about the sudden rise in the festival's popularity, says Sadhana, “This time, more than half the visitors are young people and are first-time visitors, while the rest are returning visitors. This might be because we're reaching out to more people now, through the Internet. We have over 80,000 followers on Facebook, and lakhs of people have viewed the videos we have put up on Youtube." She adds that performances by accomplished flautist Bikramjit Singh and renowned Odyssey dancer Asha Nambiar, has added to the excitement quotient of the programme list. The duo will be presenting a combined performance on August 14.
While Singh will be playing his new songs that have influences from the North-East, Bengal and the Middle East, Nambiar and her troupe will perform a fusion of Odyssey and traditional Sufi dance forms. “My music can be classified as World Music and it's very unpredictable and new. A flute can make innumerable sounds and I have experimented with so many such sounds,” says Singh, who has created several flute meditation tracks in the past.
Interestingly, the fest will introduce the participants to new forms of meditation – Golden Light meditation and Darkness meditation, says Sadhana.
While darkness meditation teaches the participants to use darkness to soothe and calm themselves, golden light meditationasks participants to imagine a glow emanating from within and to push the darkness out. “Darkness meditation is inspired by the monsoon, when the skies are dark and there is less light. We have planned a meditation session at night to show people how they can use it to their advantage," explains Sadhana.
