‘YSR bent on dividing Left’

New Delhi, August 17 : The CPM on Friday alleged that the energies of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy are being spent on breaking the Left unity in his state rather than solving the land issues which affect the masses.

Reacting to Reddy’s remarks in The Indian Express on Friday that the CPM wants to eat its cake and have it too, senior party leader and Politburo member B V Raghavulu said, “The cake is there to eat, and the CM must realise that. The Chief Minister now wants to divide the Left. The CPM along with CPI and some 147 organisations are engaged in the land struggle. The Chief Minister invited only the CPI for talks despite telling everyone that he is ready to talk. He is clearly into dividing the Left and not interested in solving the land issue,” Raghavulu told The Indian Express in an interview on Friday.

Stating that the ongoing Politburo is discussing the “Andhra struggle”, he said the Chief Minister instigated the police firing in Khammam, which resulted in the death of eight people last month.

He said the party would step up the agitation in the state with CPM general secretary Prakash Karat slated to visit it on August 22.

“There is no going back on our agitation. It’s better if the Government takes note of the gravity of the situation,” he warned.
