India, Pak anti-terror meet on Oct 22

Though India had proposed two sets of dates in September, the meeting date was fixed on October 22, which was convenient for Pakistan.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of Hyderabad blasts. In its last meeting held six months ago, India had handed over the name of Shahid Bilal, a HuJi terrorist who is believed to be in Pakistan.

While India proposed two sets of dates, Pakistan was awaiting the appointment of a key interlocutor after Additional Secretary Tariq Osman Haider retired.

The anti-terror mechanism, which was agreed upon by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf at Havana in 2006, has held one substantive meeting in March.

Meanwhile, the meeting on the conventional confidence building measures will take place on October 18 and it will be followed by the nuclear confidence building measures the next day. The meetings will also be held in New Delhi.
