New Delhi, November 7: Continuing with his tirade against America for its “imperialist designs”, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Wednesday gave a unique take on the problems Pakistan and its President Pervez Musharraf face now.

Karat said Musharraf had found favour with people of Pakistan when he came to power. But they started rejecting him the moment they realised “that he is an instrument for US designs”. Karat said this while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the October revolution.

Karat said even the US had hinted that they could “change Musharraf with someone else”. “Condoleezza Rice said we are not putting all our chips. It is a signal from the US that Musharraf could be removed... this is what happens when you compromise with your national sovereignty,” he said. He reminded that Pakistan President was the strongest “ally of the US in the global war on terror”.

Observing that US diplomats were holding consultations with “big parties” in India to pressurise them on the nuclear deal, Karat said “we are not worried because the democratic forces in the country are strong though several “compromises” were made by the erstwhile Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government with the US.

He said America “forgets about democracy when it comes to Pakistan”. He said the days of a “unipolar world order is over” and it is the multipolar world order that is emerging. He quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin on US about sanctions against Cuba that it is like a “madman roaming free with a razor”. He praised Latin American countries for “resisting US imperialism”.
