"In democracy, changes do take place and we have to humbly accept the verdict of the people," senior party leader Anand Sharma told reporters in New Delhi.
Refusing to link Narendra Modi's victory in Gujarat with Himachal results, Sharma said that there was no communal polarisation in the hill state which was witnessed in the western state.
"It is a mistake to link the Gujarat results with Himachal," he said.
"We are determined to rectify the lapses and strengthen the party. We are still a powerful presence in Himachal," Sharma, also Minister of State for External Affairs, said.
Replying to BJP allegation that Congress failed the state on the development plank, he said, "if you compare the track record of both BJP and Congress, ours is better than them in terms of development."
