NEW DELHI, JANuary 4: The CRPF and the UP Government are once again locking horns, this time over the state police going public with the “mole” hypothesis and even naming one of the constables in this context.

CRPF Director General S I S Ahmed has asked UP DGP Vikram Singh to restrain his officers. Government sources confirmed that Ahmed called up Vikram Singh last evening and told him to stop his fellow officers from casting “unsubstantiated aspersions” on the two Kashmiri CRPF personnel, who are currently being questioned as part of the investigation into the terrorist attack. Top CRPF officials said they are investigating the alleged involvement of the Kashmiri constable, who remained unscathed during the strike at the guardroom, and an Assistant Commandant, responsible for security arrangement but have not firmed up any conclusions yet.

The present focus of the probe is the breach of the first security tier by a Tata Sumo carrying a BSP party flag. According to Home Ministry officials, the investigators have picked up definite clues from the site of attack that left eight persons including seven CRPF jawans dead and will be able to identify the jehadi group behind the strike.

Ahmed apparently told Singh that such categorical statements from UP police officers would have an adverse effect on morale of the personnel. DGP Singh is said to have blamed his junior colleagues and assured Ahmed of coordination through IG (UP) CRPF Karambir Singh during the strike investigations.

At a meeting involving all the Additional DGPs of UP, Singh openly lobbed questions at A.D.G.P. (PAC) O.P.S. Malik and A.D.G.P. (Wireless) P.P.S. Sidhu about the possible involvement of CRPF constable Javed in the Rampur attack. Both Malik and Sidhu, 1975 batch IPS officers, were IGs in the CRPF before they joined the UP Police.
