The Commonwealth Games mega run, marking the start of the 1,000-day countdown to the big event in Delhi, took place on Sunday. But as is usually the case, this didn’t happen without the expected jitters. So much so that Suresh Kalmadi wrote to the Defence Ministry to organise some 2,000 personnel to participate in the run. And the Armed Forces, being the disciplined outfit they are, issued orders that two officers from each directorate must be present for the run. Not just that, the Army ordered its personnel training for the forthcoming UN peacekeeping assignments to be on duty this Sunday. All so that the organisers could say volunteers turned out in huge numbers for the run.
