MUMBAI, JANUARY 13: Cosmetic surgeon Dr Vijay Sharma, accused of molesting a 22-year-old TV journalist at his clinic in Khar on Saturday, was granted bail on Sunday morning only to be arrested again later in the day in connection with another molestation complaint filed against him by a former patient, a 30-year-old woman.

The woman’s husband, a real estate agent, said, “A year-and-a-half ago, my wife got silicon breast implants and liposuction surgeries done by Vijay Sharma. Soon after, my wife started having complications. She would go back to Sharma for these problems, and on six or seven occasions he kissed her and made her take off her clothes.”

“My wife told me about this a month ago, and I lodged an application with the police. However, the officer concerned went to Nepal. I am in touch with the Deputy Commissioner of Police and we want to lodge a complaint of molestation against Sharma,” Gupta said.

Confirming this, Inspector Shivajirao Kolekar said: “We have verified the complaint and registered a case. The accused has sent lewd SMSes to the woman. We have arrested him and he will be produced in court on Monday.”

Claiming that Sharma had been framed, his daughter Neha Veronica, a final-year medical student, said, “I know my father and all these allegations are false. He is being framed by someone. He has been a surgeon since 1987 and is mentioned in the Limca Book of Records for having conducted the most number of plastic surgeries in India. In 2000, he received the best Asian cosmetic surgeon award in Tokyo.”

On the fresh allegations, Neha said, “This woman signed a consent letter saying there was a possibility of her body rejecting the implants. When she complained after the surgery, we asked her to sign another consent letter to remove the implants but she refused. All her allegations are false. My mother used to herself attend to her at our home. And there is always a female attendant present during any procedure or check-up at the clinic. Why has she come forward now when she claims she was molested several times in the past?”

Sharma was arrested on Saturday after a TV journalist accused him of molestation. According to the complaint, the journalist went to Sharma’s residence in Andheri for an interview on Saturday morning, following which she headed for his Khar clinic along with Sharma and a cameraman. After the shoot, Sharma allegedly asked the cameraman to wait outside his cabin saying he wanted to talk to the journalist. According to the complainant, Sharma then forcibly kissed her and molested her. He then allegedly threatened her with dire consequences to prevent her from lodging a complaint, the police said.
