NEW DELHI JANUARY 17: An explosion under the IIT flyover on Wednesday morning created panic among bystanders. The police said the explosion was reported around 11 am but its source has yet to be identified. One person was also injured in the incident.

DCP (South) Anil Shukla rushed to the spot. A Special Cell team of the Delhi Police also visited the spot. Delhi Police Public Relations Officer Rajan Bhagat said the explosion could have taken place because of a fault in the overhead electrical lines. A senior police officer, however, said, “The explosion took place inside a capacitor on the overhead electric lines.”

Shivnath (19), who received minor injuries during the explosion, however, gave a different story. A police source quoted him as saying: “I was walking towards the IIT and I saw a box. When I got near it, the box exploded and I felt a pain in my back.” Shivnath, who works in the nearby Sahil Communications, was rushed to AIIMS, where he was discharged after first aid.

The police haven't recovered any such box. DC P (Special Cell) Alok Kumar, said, “The spot was thoroughly combed but our team did not recover any residue of any bomb. As far as the box mentioned by the victim is concerned, no debris was recovered.”
