Guwahati, February 5: Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs winner of 2006 Sanchita Bhattacharya suffered injuries in her head and left eye while her father Dhruba Bhattacharya was also injured when the vehicle they were travelling met with an accident near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district of lower Assam early this morning.

While Sanchita, the 14-year-old singing sensation, and her father suffered head injuries, Aneek Dhar, winner of Bangla version of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, who was also travelling together, was also injured.

An officer at the Dudhnoi police station said the car (a red Bolero with registration number AS-16 8714) in which they were travelling was trying to overtake a loaded truck when the two collided.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 am. A case of rash driving has been registered and the driver arrested.

“The Bolero in which they were travelling tried to overtake a truck when another vehicle approached from the front. While the driver tried to avert a head-on collision, the Bolero rammed into the truck,” an officer at the Dudhnoi police station told The Indian Express.

The singers were returning from Kokrajhar, where they sang at a musical nite organised in aid of Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) pn Monday night. While Sanchita, her father and another accompanist were taken to the Goalpara Civil Hospital, Aneek caught another vehicle to Guwahati to catch a 9 am flight to Kolkata.

“We had told them not to travel at night. But Aneek insisted on going back to Guwahati immediately after the show was over. We repeatedly told them not to travel at night because of the fog, but they left Kokrajhar at around 3 am for Guwahati,” Mono Kumar Brahma, president of the organising committee of the last night’s function, told The Indian Express.

Brahma said while Aneek took a flight to Kolkata at 9 am from Guwahati, the tickets of Sanchita, her father and another person accompanying them were rescheduled for 7:45 pm on Tuesday.
