He last visited the area on December 26 last year when he addressed a rally near Nandigram college. “We are going to meet soon to decide the venue where the CM will distribute the pattas,” said Sitaram Garai, BDO of Nandigram Block I.
The Government dithered over whether it would go in for patta distribution at Nandigram which is still simmering. “We apprehended that there would be resistance from the locals during survey but nothing happened. The CM lapped up the suggestion of distributing the pattas himself,” said a top state Government official.
The department has already distributed pattas in areas like Khejuri Block I, Contai Block I, Contai Block II, Bhagwanpore, Patashpore and places adjacent to Nandigram. In these areas, a total of 450 acres of land was distributed among 4,500 people.
In Nandigram Block I, while 184 houses were damaged totally, 236 were partially. A compensation of Rs 11, 000 (Rs 1,000 for utensils) was paid to those whose houses were totally damaged and Rs 6,000 (again Rs 1,000 for utensils) was paid to those whose houses were damaged partially. “I have already disbursed Rs 31 lakh for this purpose, and we are in the process of identifying more such houses,” Garai added.
In Nandigram Block II, 99 houses were destroyed totally and 300 partially.
