NEW DELHI: : Taking strong objection to the continuing violence in Palestine, India on Saturday demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities and resumption of dialogue between the opposing sides.

“The Government of India is dismayed at the continuing violence in occupied Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip,” the spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“Events this week, including the disproportionate use of retaliatory force, have led to avoidable civilian casualties, including the death of innocent children. This is unacceptable,” the spokesman said without naming Israel for using retaliatory force.

About 60 people have been killed in Palestine since Israeli forces launched air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday following the death of an Israeli man by rockets fired from the other side. Of these, more than 20 people were killed in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.
